About Us

Home and Heart Company founders Christine Arnold, a Southern California wedding photographer, and her husband Stefan grew up on different continents but had connections to nature that would inspire their love of natural materials and simple but elegant furniture and other home goods.

Christine, the daughter of English and American parents, was raised on a dairy farm in Paraguay where she vividly remembers a huge fireplace that kept the family warm during the cool winter nights. Trips to see family in England reinforced her love of antique furniture and the functional beauty of vintage home goods.

Stefan, the son of a teacher and a nurse, also enjoyed his family's fireplace, where he was kept warm during the sometimes-cruel winter nights of rural New England. He loved visiting his grandparents and their house outside of Boston. The wooden-plank floors and exposed radiators embodied the rustic feel of the home.

In 1995, Stefan was living in Seattle and Christine in San Francisco when they met online. It was love at first keystroke for the pair, who did a true life "You've Got Mail," before Google, Amazon or Yahoo (or the movie!) even existed. Take that, Tom Hanks and Meg Ryan.

(Stefan: Her AOL profile said 23-year-old Californian. I said yes.)

Christine and Stefan were married in 1999 and began a journey together that now includes three dogs. Along the way, their travels have helped form the ideals of the Home and Heart Company. From New England's rustic charms, to Costa Rica's well-crafted wooden furniture and California's airy nights and casual elegance, Christine and Stefan came to love a unique style of home goods. And now they want to share it with you.
